“Official” Shuttle Considered to Clear Parking Congestion at Camelback Mountain – Echo Canyon Trail
As we discussed back in May 2011, the Phoenix Parks and Rec board held an open house to receive possible recommendations for improving the parking situation on the Echo Canyon side of Camelback Mountain. Yesterday the parks board met again to consider many possible options but chief among them an “official” shuttle service sponsored by the city. There are two private shuttle services now and park rangers onsite to help move along traffic, but even with these additions, the parking situation is still a challenge both for hikers and nearby residents.
The next few months will be very busy on Camelback, winter visitors and perfect outdoor weather make the in-city hike very attractive. With no funds allocated by the city for parking improvements, some sort of parking expansion or garage seems unlikely. An “official” shuttle service sounds ok, however keeping it private and open for competition would be better for local commerce and better for the consumers.
Is a shuttle service the best solution though? There are some mixed responses on our site poll. We have added ‘Official Shuttle Service’ as a new option. Cast your vote and see the results to the right.
